Emerson

We are loving our little guy to pieces! He has been such a good baby. I'm trying really hard not to think about him being my last.

The Boy Who Must Not be Named

...Now has a name!  (After only three weeks!)

Miguel gave a talk in church on Mother's Day and introduced himself as Lord Voldemort's father.  Thank heavens our child now has a name and in no way resembles the One Who Must Not Be Named.

We did have a panic attack in the hospital because we hadn't officially discussed boy names at all.  (long story!)  We emailed some friends and family and I posted a couple baby name polls on two different baby name sites.  Asher was the favorite name amongst those polled on the sites, but all our friends liked Emerson.

Some other names I like (though Emerson was/is my favorite) are: Ezra, Coleman, Elijah, Stockton, Benson, Taft (no intention on including all of ETB's names), and Cohen.  Miguel was not crazy about any of these names (when I suggested Coleman he said it sounded like a camp stove), and none of them seemed to fit him anyway.

We almost named him Asher, but found out in the hospital this is the name of one of Miguel's best friend's babies. (We are so good at paying attention to this stuff-- we just saw them 8 weeks before he was born but didn't clue in until Miguel's sister told us this detail in the hospital) Also, I actually called him Asher one day before we had officially named him, and all our kids flipped out. Not one of them liked the name. A couple of them even started crying.

We went through so many names, but alas, we kept coming back to the same two.  There are so many nice names, but it seems like his name was meant to be Emerson.   We added Rafael as his middle name since that has always been one of Miguel's favorite names and is the name of an uncle of his that died.
